Once upon a time there was …
The “Klausen races” or “the special fascination of pre-war roadsters”
In September of 2006 there were three men (Theo Klick, Wilfried Krings and myself) who responded to the call of the 4th International Klausen Race Memorial and set out for the Klausen pass (1,952 m high) located in Switzerland in the Canton of Uri. The impressions of this sunny weekend in September exceeded everything the three pioneers had ever seen or heard before in the course of their careers as oldtimer freaks. The alpine region was the perfect setting for a travel back to the great times of the legendary “Klausen Races”.
During those three days, the road from Linthal up to the Klausen pass (21,5 kilometres) was filled with the buzzing noise of the engines and there was no one who talked about decibel or gas consumption. Bentleys, Alfa Romeos, Lagondas or Bugattis took them right back into the 20s or 30s of the last century and infected them by a virus called “pre-war roadsters”.
The very same day, the three men decided to organize “something like this” in the German region; the idea for the “Rhine-Ahr-Eifel-Classic” was born.
The event was designed to be something extraordinary: with very special vehicles in a very special setting – but without any glamour and airs and graces.
True to our motto “cruise and enjoy” the “Rhine-Ahr-Eifel-Classic” is an event which takes place in a consistent and stylish setting, but is far from being formal; it is exclusive but not snobbish … it simply is an event which is organized by oldtimer freaks and meant for oldtimer freaks.
